Hartley Neighborhood Association Monthly Board Meeting February 15, 2007

President Barbara Cornelius called the meeting to order at 7:05pm in the Hartley Elementary School Media Center. Also in attendance were Michael Cornelius and Chris Lesiak.

Chris presented the minutes from the January meeting for review.

Barbara, for Rhonda Schoenmaker, reported that there had been no activity in the treasury. There was some discussion on possible uses for a anonymous contribution of $200 that had been made some time ago for recruiting.

There was no report from the Welcome Committee.

Barbara reported that the Newsletter Committee was making progress. The next one to be out will be advertise the annual meeting.

Michael gave the report for Focus Area Committee. The draft plan needs to be reviewed. The next step is to set priorities, both with and without a budget. Shawn Ryba will be at the next meeting to discuss Free To Grow.

The synopsis of the Mayor's Roundtable is at http://www.hartleyneighborhood.org/News. The meeting was mostly about graffiti and the new ordinance. Reports of graffiti to one's own property should be made to the police at 441-6000. Reports of graffiti to other property should be made to Lin Quenzer, City Ombudsman, at 441-7511. Property must be cleaned up within 15 days of receiving a certified letter. The next meeting will include choosing a new chair.

Barbara reported on the Community Garden. Community Crops is ready to go, but needs a liaison with the Hartley Neighborhood Association. It was suggested that either Susan Schoneweis or Judy Foreman would be a good choice; they will be contacted.

Discussion of the Annual Meeting proceeded. An organizer will be chosen at the March meeting; one needn't be present to be elected. Organizational progress needs to be made before then. Items for the meeting include recognition, a business meeting, a keynote speaker (maybe Free to Grow), and a strengths/weaknesses evaluation or other breakout session. A list of city services was split up; representatives will be asked to attend and have information available. The annual meeting will also be a good time to organize a Block Captains meeting. Childcare will need to be provided. The meeting will be April 19 at 7pm in the Hartley Elementary Gym.

It was noted that the offices of President, Vice President, and Treasurer will be up for election this year. A nomination committee will be selected at the March meeting and the election will be held at the May meeting.

The UNL Big Event will be March 31 from 8:30am to 12:30pm. They are looking for service projects in our neighborhood. Last year they picked up litter and helped to distribute newsletters.

There has been a call for nominations for Community Development Awards. Possibilities include the cleanup and the wiki.

The date for the annual cleanup was selected as either April 28 or May 5. (At the time of writing, May 5 has been chosen as the date.) This was tabled until next meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05pm.
