The representatives of Olsson Associates (OA) presented some preliminary plans for the R Street Streetscape project based on previous input from the Focus Area Committee and OA-run focus groups. The results of OA's meetings with the committees showed that neighborhood identity and attractiveness where the main concerns of the committee, while the focus groups concentrated on neighborhood identity and safety. Included were plans for improving the attractiveness of the 27th and R "gateway" to Hartley, traffic calming along R, new street trees, signage, ornamental fencing at Hartley Park, and improved pedestrian and traffic lighting for R Street/Kleckner/Walnut Court.

Pros and cons of a bike lane on R were discussed. David generally supports bike lanes, but Barbara and Michael felt that bike lanes were generally bad for bicyclists. John said that it was probably not an issue because the city is only beginning to explore the possibilities of on-street bike lanes; it was considered for the design (based on input from the focus groups), but probably not feasible now.

OA will be presenting designs for the Streetscape Project at the Annual Meeting. The meeting will be publicized by a flyer in the newsletter coming out this week. Barbara will be coordinating getting the flyer in the newsletter.

Bradd said further work on the Focus Area Plan is waiting on the results of the housing survey. Michael will be expediting the project to get the information to Bradd.

The meeting adjourned informally; general discussion ensued.
