Others in attendance were:
- Ralph Johnson
- Ruth Johnson
- Chris Lesiak
Jack McVay
- Jackie Murray
- Matt Platte
- Serena Reeves
- Rhonda Schoenmaker
- James Walkington
Chris presented the minutes from the February meeting. They were accepted without amendment. In addition to the minutes being sent to the email list after the meeting, members asked that they be included with the agenda for the next meeting.
Rhonda reported a bank balance of $692.17 - no change since last meeting.
As part of the Welcome Committee report, Rhonda asked members to help deliver welcome packets to new residents. Packets would be available for collection at every meeting. When delivering packets, please ask if the new resident's name and address can be included in the next newsletter. Sold homes were 3047 R Street, 2910 Q Street, and 3034 Walnut Court. Jack announced that he had distributed welcome packets to all of his tenants.
There was little to report on the Focus Area due to a meeting postponement.
In Membership Committee report, Barbara reported no new members. Membership forms will be included as part of the next newsletter.
Barbara said that she and Marin Hanson would begin the newsletter the next weekend and would try to get them to the block captains by March 25 for delivery.
Barbara reminded everyone that the cleanup would be held on Saturday, April 22, with the 29th being an alternate date.
During The Mayor's Neighborhood Round Table, it was announced that April 8 will be the UNL "Big Event" service day. Members were asked for suggested projects. Delivery of newsletters to blocks without block captains was suggested.
The equipment grant of a bench and a bike rack for Peter Pan Park was also officially announced at the Mayor's Neighborhood Round Table. We will need to supply labor for their installation.
It was decided to have the picnic at 1pm after the cleanup on April 22. Ruth and Rhonda agreed to coordinate the main dishes. Those attending the picnic should bring a side dish, salad, desert, etc.
Serena had checked on prices for wood chipper rentals and found a range of $50 to $150 for four hours depending on size. It was decided that brush and branches should be placed on the curb and the chipper would be moved around the neighborhood to do the chipping. Michael agreed to coordinate this with Darren Murray.
A discussion on the Vine Street widening project then commenced. Rhonda indicated that the Hartley PTA was against it and would like to be kept up to date on any new information. The Wednesday folders sent home with students could be used for communicating with parents. James reported that he had been trying to get more information from the police about speeding and accidents. He also suggested that if the widening were to go through, a zig-zag toward the cemetery, improvements to the alley north of Vine, and street scaping would make the project more palatable to him. Rhonda asked that we request a formal presentation. Michael moved and Ralph seconded a motion to invite Roger Figard, the City Engineer, to attend the May 18 board meeting for a QA session with members of ECCO also to be invited. The motion passed.
All were reminded that Olsson Associates would be making a presentation on the Focus Area street scaping at the annual meeting on April 20.
Matt Platte announced his new HartleyNeighborhood.com web site. When compared to the HNA site, his site would focus more on stories and less on issues.
James suggested that Keep Nebraska Beautiful may have resources to help us with litter control and recycling.
The meeting was then adjourned.
